Wood Fencing

Pros of Wood Fencing

Wood fencing is considered a classic. It’s easy to make a wood fence look perfect in any backyard or garden. Wood fences also come in a variety of wood types, all ranging in price, allowing you to pick the type that best suits your needs and budget. Wood fences come in many different styles and colours.  With variations in panel placement, wood fences can be great for privacy.

Cons of Wood Fencing

Wood fences require the most maintenance. They can be susceptible to insect infestations and rot. To keep your wood fence from getting damaged or rotting away, yearly maintenance is highly recommended. Improperly installed wooden fences may also warp and bend. An experienced installer is the best way to avoid this problem.

Metal Fencing (Iron)

Pros of Iron Fencing

An iron fence is a great choice if you’re looking for little maintenance and high durability. Iron fences can sustain massive blows – you won’t have to worry about this fence falling over. Unlike wooden fences, you won’t have to worry about insect infestations or warping. Metal fences are also quite secure as they are difficult to climb and nearly impossible to topple over. They can be made in a variety of styles and can be a great addition to either a residential backyard or a commercial setting.

Cons of Iron Fencing

Iron fences require little maintenance but they are not maintenance-free. Iron fences are susceptible to rust, which can cause major damage if not treated quickly. Though secure, iron fences are also not designed to be privacy fences. Most are open, allowing any passerby to peer right into your property.  Iron fences are difficult to install for the inexperienced and tend to be the priciest fence panel option.

Metal Fencing (Chain Link)

Pros of Chain Link Fencing

Chain link fences are versatile and affordable. When properly installed, chain link fences are durable and can last a very long time. Like iron fences, chain link fencing requires little maintenance. Chain link fencing is a cost-effective solution to keeping children and pets safe in your yard. It can also be used on commercial lots and does come in a few different styles and sizes.

Cons of Chain Link Fencing

Though there is some variety with chain link styles, visually, they are all pretty much the same. If you’re looking for a unique fence, chain link is not the way to go. It also provides limited security (though some commercial styles will provide more) and is virtually see-through, providing no privacy. Chain link fences are also not exactly visually appealing, which may be a deal breaker for some.

Vinyl Fencing

Pros of Vinyl Fencing

Vinyl fence panels come in a variety of shapes and styles, allowing you to choose one that best suits your own personal style and needs. Vinyl fences are known for their durability and strength. With a vinyl fence, you won’t have to worry about rot, rust, or insects – they are virtually maintenance-free. Vinyl is relatively affordable, though it typically costs more than wood. Vinyl fences are also easy to install as the panels are very light compared to other materials. Vinyl fences allow lots of privacy.

Cons of Vinyl Fencing

Though vinyl fence panels are extremely easy to maintain, they do tend to look dirty over time and will need occasional cleaning. Though it is a strong material, it is not as strong as an iron fence or a wooden fence, and won’t be able to hold up against extremely strong impacts. Vinyl is also susceptible to extreme weather conditions and may become brittle during harsh winters.
