What is VEKAdeck?
VEKAdeck is an alternative decking material to wood. It is made from 100% cellular processed PVC (a type of synthetic resin, sometimes also called “vinyl”) manufactured by the company VEKA Inc. PVC decking is more and more frequently used as an alternative to wood due to its little-to-no maintenance requirements. VEKAdeck requires no painting or staining. However, it comes in a variety of colours, including khaki, almond, mocha, walnut, white, grey, cayenne (signature), hazelnut (signature), and espresso (signature).
VEKAdeck – The Pros
Many homeowners choose composite or PVC decking for the many pros of this material. The following is a list of VEKAdeck benefits.
- Fade resistant – VEKAdeck maintains its colour and appearance year after year without requiring consistent maintenance.
- Insect resistant – Unlike wood, a natural home for bugs and pests, PVC boards do not attract insects.
- Splinter free – A great benefit for both children and adults alike, VEKAdeck is made from material that does not splinter, peel, or flake.
- Slip, fire, and water resistant – VEKAdeck is made with an embossed wood grain for an anti-slip surface, it will self-extinguish in case of fire, and will not absorb moisture.
- Low maintenance & easy to clean – VEKAdeck requires almost no maintenance as it never needs painting or sealing. VEKAdeck is also very easy to clean with just mild soap and water.
- Easy to install & light weight – cellular processed PVC is lighter weight than wood and just as easy to install.
- Environmentally friendly – People often have a negative gut reaction when they hear the word “plastic” or “resin.” However, PVC is a recyclable material and helps to save our forest resources from being depleted. VEKAdeck is also UV and water resistant, meaning it requires no chemical treatments.

VEKAdeck – The Cons
No product or material is without downsides. In order to accurately decide if VEKAdeck is right for you, your home, and your family, it’s important to know both the pros and cons. The following is a list of VEKAdeck cons.
- The cost – VEKAdeck costs more upfront than pressure treated wood, although, in the long-term, some of this upfront cost may be defrayed because it requires little-to-no maintenance.
- Durability – Although VEKAdeck is durable, it is not completely damage-proof. For example, patio furniture could scratch the boards, or debris from a storm could cause damage.
- Some maintenance required – Unfortunately, nothing is 100% maintenance free. VEKAdecks require significantly less maintenance than wood decks, but it is still recommended to give your VEKAdeck a good power washing every one to two years to help maintain it.
- Can get very hot – During hot summer days, PVC decking can get very hot to the touch.
Wood VS Composite VS PVC Decking – A Comparison
Choosing your perfect deck material is easiest when you have all the facts. Composite and PVC may seem almost identical at first glance. Composite is made from a mixture of both plastic and wood. Like PVC, it requires little maintenance and, when made well, looks highly attractive. However, it is not fully recyclable and therefore not considered as environmentally friendly. Wood is often the first material that comes to mind when thinking of a deck.
With a wood deck, you get the authentic feel, look, and even smell of wood – because it is wood! Wood is also easy to customize however you want, as you can paint it any colour and easily screw or nail on additions. However, it is not insect or rot resistant and often requires harsh chemicals to keep it from fading or attracting unwanted pests.
The following lists the top three pros and cons of PVC, composite, and wood.
